The Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS) and the Companhia de Dança do Algarve (CDA) get together to present “Matrioska”. The OCS and the CDA will share the stage to present “Pictures at an exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky, under the musical direction of Rui Pinheiro, OCS’s principal conductor, and with a CDA choreography signed by Carolina Cantinho, Evgueni Beliaev and Natalia Abramova.
A symbol of Russia, the matryoshka doll (Matrioska) is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. Departing from the initial concept of overlay we get to the notion of space in a gallery, where the “Pictures at an exhibition” present themselves as different layers that merge the real and the imaginary in a set of images and situations depicted from the popular Russian tales.
