Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa
Conductor: Luís Carvalho

Pedro and Inês, Pelléas and Mélisande, Orpheus and Eurydice... Stories of forbidden love that tell the drama of those who, unable to live without "the other", surrender to the communion of death. These real or fictional narratives have always ignited the imagination of mankind ever since. This program takes a peek through that leafy window and faces three musical pieces full of fantasy and dramatic density. Conductor Luis Carvalho begins the concert by directing the orchestra reading of his own work. Nise Lacrimosa portrays a reading of the novel "pure" and "mourner" which united in eternity Dom Pedro I and Ines de Castro. Bypassing the famous narrative, we will have  twelve minutes of music in which the orchestra recreates, subjectively, the emotions of the protagonists. Afterwards, similarly to Fauré, Debussy and Schönberg, Jean Sibelius also composed for the text of symbolist Maeterlinck, "Pelléas et Mélisande". Witihin the lifeless waters in the Kingdom of Allemonde, sounded the music you will hear in the Suite Op. 46. Lastly, Stravinsky gave rise to its lyrical vein in the ballet Orpheus, which Balanchine brought to the scene in 1948, two blocks away from Broadway in New York.
