Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa

The absolute debut for one more work by Sergio Azevedo, the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra Giochi di Uccelli , is the first reason of interest that stands out in this program, which Nuno Inácio, 1.º Flute of Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, as soloist. But the music of Stravinsky comes out to meet him, since it is an (good) influence taken by the Portuguese composer. The Pulcinella ballet was premiered at the Paris Opera House in 1920, with scenarios by Pablo Picasso and choreography by Léonide Massine. It was, however, through a suite orchestral score that it has become popular, nullifying the sung parts included in the original version. Freely inspired by the music of the 18th century composer, G. B. Pergolesi, it ended up to be a pivotal work in the career of the Russian musician, since the "discovery" of the music of the past guided him, thereafter, into a neo-classicist trend. The Danses Concertantes would be composed two decades later. Although it was originally conceived as an orchestral score, its scenic propensity soon became apparent. It is built over multiple connotations of the universe of dance that immediately sparked the creativity of the choreographer George Balanchine.
